NEW BUILD WOODLAND HOUSE

This new ‘ranch style’ house, crescent in plan, faces south to benefit from solar gain, beautiful natural light, and delightful views over the countryside. It is constructed of ( SIP ) Structural Insulated Panels, with Western Red Cedar timber shingles covering the roof and with walls clad in cedar boarding and lime render. Following the construction of the large basement, all the walls and roof were erected in eight working days. The staircase linking the three floors, is a complicated semi-circle in plan and was constructed entirely on site.

We recently had the opportunity to revisit this project that was completed a decade ago. It was fantastic to see how this spectacular, faceted house has settled into its environment and how the timber-facing materials of the walls and roof have mellowed in tone and texture. The addition of a large garden pond really adds to the tranquil setting and is a great attraction for local wildlife.
